I just mean that the way most fediverse instances are set up it's just like... inherently more fun. The platform itself is not tripping over itself trying to boost your engagement 24/7. But also things like custom emojis and longer post limits are just. fun.

2022-08-20T12:44:16-07:00	Since TikTok is primarily algorithm-based, some younger folks just assume that *every* website has an algorithm. Pictured were people hoping that their fanfics would be picked up by the "algorithm" on a specific fanfiction site that has no such algorithm.

(the joke being that there is no algorithm... only web links!) but it seems that Neocities kind of has an algorithm? I still have no idea how the [activity](https://neocities.org/activity) page works, but it only lists some websites (since showing EVERY update would be chaotic hell, especially for only minor site changes). I also still don't know what the "secret sauce" search does, but it sounds like it's kind of algorithmic. Neocities *is* open source so I should be able to figure out how these work... maybe I'll look into that some day.

2022-11-02T13:49:55-07:00	One such rule is that Twitter is hell, and no one should ever. **EVER.** Crosspost their Tweets from Twitter to the Fediverse. I think that in general that is a fine rule to live by, because Twitter is a bad website, and no one wants to see your tweets on the Fediverse (except of course, when it's a funny tweet that's been screenshotted; that is perfectly fine).
2022-11-02T13:49:55-07:00	However, I've been wanting to set up a way to make the Nintendo Switch Sharing functionality work on the Fediverse. And, not wanting to homebrew my expensive video game console, I decided the best way to get it to work would be to set it up to share to Twitter and have some utility that automatically copies those posts from Twitter to my Fediverse feed. When I asked if there were any utilities to do that... it was not well received, because I was breaking the unspoken crossposting rule.

The unspoken crossposting rule is in place because many people set up a Twitter -> Mastodon crossposter and forget about Mastodon entirely, leaving to a "zombie" account that wastes space on the fediverse just paroting and dumping Twitter drama onto a server somewhere, without any interactions from the fediverse bubbling over to the original Twitter user. It sucks. I get it, and I've seen it happen, and I don't like it.
